About Us

Hamotzi is named for the traditional blessing before a meal and is based on a rabbinic plea during the High Holy Days in 1993. Since then, over 150,000 well-balanced meals have been prepared for shelters, families, and individuals. Every Sunday at 9:30 am in the Newman Hall Kitchen, our volunteers—adults and young people alike—prepare nutritious meals that are delivered to two shelters and 25 homes in San Francisco. Volunteers do it all - shopping, picking up donations, prep, cooking, cleaning, and deliveries. Hamotzi is led by Nancy Sheftel-Gomes.
